@ianazavi sent: ❝ I had a dream about you last night. ❞A weird statement from a random dalish girl - just another hala-eyed blond with pale branchy Vallaslin.“ Yeah… I’m pretty sure it was you. Funny things - dreams.”
~  Solas simply raises a brow at the girl. “ About me? Are you certain? I don’t believe we’ve met.” ~
~  “ I’m sure much of what you were told is exaggeration – but you should still be wary. There are a multitude of humans that despise elves, and would gladly make an example out of one if they were able. ” He didn’t want to go into the endless list of horrible crimes committed against elves…but this girl had to be careful. ~
~  “ Much lies to the north: the Free Marches, Tevinter, Antiva, and Rivain…have you heard of those places? ” Depending on just how isolated her clan was, she might only know the few cities in Ferelden. ~
~  “ It is a pleasure to meet you, Ennathelia Naeth, ” he replied with a polite nod of his head. “ My name is Solas…are you heading to a certain place in particular? ” ~
She was obviously not too attentive when he spoke of the dangers humans posed. But in her excuse- she’d heard way too many blood chilling stories that the lot didn’t live up too. But the mention of places up north instantly made her ears perk right back up.
“I’ve read some things… we also had a map, but it wasn’t as if we ever used it,” - she explained, - “ I can’t say I know much. We’ve never really strayed from the annual routes. Not in like… 75? 80? years? Grandbae didn’t even have vallaslin when they fled the human place… the places where they live? You know? It’s like camp but bigger and permanent?… Anyways, the clan stopped trading or even seeing the humans from that point on. A lot of rumours can grow in 80 years. One of my cousins was convinced they had two heads! But Valli is an idiot…”
The girl fell silent for a moment, as she tried to remember something.
“Oh! Right… It is a pleasure to meet you, Solas. … Um… I’m heading to…”
It was pretty hard to say where you were going if you were actually moving away and not from.
“ To learn… things. I’m a caster… a mage.”
She waved around the leaking stick with a small bag of things tied to the top.
“ … I’m not terribly talented, I’ve been told. But Daime always said I’d learn… that’s my brother. Not that you’ll ever meet, I don’t think. It’s silly isn’t it…”
She looked down at her feet. She’d never see Daime either, would she? Or mae or bae… or any of them.

~  For a fraction of a second, his gaze steels at the mention of Fen’Harel; but there is no accusation in the girl’s tone, no hint of recognition on her face. She has not made the connection. His neutral demeanor returns, as if it had never left. ~
~  “ It sounds as if you viewed a memory, ” he explained quickly. “ Most likely multiple recollections merged together, possibly spanning across centuries. ” His lips quirk a bit at she mentions Fen’Harel as an ill omen, but thankfully she changes the topic to the human cities. ~
~  “ I am not from the human cities. I originate from farther north; you would not have heard of the place. ” Not exactly a lie. “ If I may ask…what are you doing away from your clan? It is not safe for a young elf to roam the human territories by herself. ” Especially one unfamiliar with life outside of a Dalish clan. ~
Ethel. Though she noticed the man frown, but his words about a further north she’d never heard of instantly sparked her interest. But just as she opened her mouth to ask, he was already going on about evil humans.
“ The shemlen aren’t half as bad as the elders portray them to be. We used to be told they steal misbehaving children and eat them children,” she rolled her eyes. Stories for the camp fire of course, but he probably got the gist of it. Her clan was extremely shemaphobic. As for why she left… well, it wasn’t really her clan anymore, was it? Not that he needed to know.
“ I’m off to travel and … learn things. I come from a terribly remote and isolated nomadic clan that’s cut itself off from the world for the last 80 years, and keeps running around in circles following it’s yearly routes… I guess I’m breaking the pattern? Anyways… so what is to the far north?”
The girl gave him a curious look and then it hit her - she’s been told this before… it never happened in a clan where you knew everyone your entire life…
“ Oh! Sorry, I haven’t gotten used to this yet. My name is Ennathelia, Naeth… um the shems … the humans can’t pronounce that, so they call me Ethel instead. I kind of like it… What’s your name?”
